Three suspected illegal Afghan migrants were arrested after being found in the back of a lorry at a Folkestone factory.

Immigration officers and Kent Police were called to the Church and Dwight factory in Bowes Well Gardens shortly before 9.30am on Monday.

The Home Office confirmed three men all in their 20s from Afghanistan were arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.

A spokesman said: “The men, aged 21, 23 and 25, were passed to immigration officers to be interviewed.

"Two remain in immigration detention and the 25-year-old was ordered to report regularly to Immigration Enforcement while his case is progressed.”

It is understood the lorry they were travelling in was a German-registered vehicle.

But KentOnline understands the driver has not been arrested.

A spokesman for Kent Police added: “South East Coast Ambulance Service attended to check their health.

“Police officers went to the scene and the men have been handed over to Home Office Immigration Enforcement.”
