Environmental health officers are investigating after a father claims half an insect fell into his lap as he was sharing lunch with his two-year-old son.
Steve Robertson, 33, of Walton Manor Close, Folkestone, said the bug dropped out of his sandwich after a visit to Subway in Park Farm Road.
Mr Robertson said: “I was having a foot-long spicy Italian with all the meats and salad. It’s what I normally have every time.
“I got home and unwrapped it and after a few bites it fell on my lap. It looked like a cockroach.
“My two-year-old son, Marley, was eating it with me.
“When I have something he always shares it and comes up for a bite so it could’ve been either of us. There was only half so what if we ate the other half?
“They said sorry and offered me vouchers but I said no and they said an investigation found it was in a supplier.”
A spokesman for Subway said: “The safety and security of our customers is of paramount importance to Subway.
“Each store is individually owned and operated and we have very strict procedures to ensure that stores serve products safely and to customers’ satisfaction.
"The store in Folkestone investigated this incident alongside the local environmental health office.
“They determined that this issue was not caused by the store and were pleased with the overall cleanliness of the store.”
A spokesman for Shepway District Council said: “An incident concerning an insect was reported to the council on Friday and is being investigated.

“The remains of the sandwich and insect have been collected. From initial examination, it appears to be part of a beetle.
“An unannounced spot check has been carried out at Subway, Park Farm Road.
“No evidence of cockroach or other insect infestation was found.
“An investigation into a food complaint will try to establish what caused the problem and what steps were taken by the retailer or supplier to prevent it happening.”
Environmental health officers gave the restaurant a five-star hygiene rating in December.
