An irate Folkestone man smashed a glass in the face of a fellow drinker after a bust up in the town’s Bar 24.

Tobias Moore, 21, had become aggressive after a group of friends were laughing and joking in the bar’s smoking area.

Peacemaker Jason Newman pleaded with Moore: “Calm down, mate, we’re all here for a drink and a laugh and don’t want any aggro!”

But a judge heard that instead of calming down, Moore, of St Michael’s Street, struck his victim in the head with a glass.

It left Mr Newman with a two-inch cut in the forehead and needing treatment at a nearby hospital where the wound was stitched, Canterbury Crown Court was told.

Now Moore has been jailed for three years after admitting the wounding with intent attack in November last year.

Judge James O’Mahony told him: “You should be ashamed of your behaviour but I accept you are remorseful.”

The court heard that Moore’s father was suffering from a serious illness, his mother was also unwell and a good friend had committed suicide.

But the judge added: “I accept the suicide experience would have had a profound effect on you and your well-being, but these are no excuses for your behaviour.

“However they do give some explanation and it is clear you have a positive character, a family man with a strong worth ethic.”
