The votes are in and verified and the winner of the best Folkestone Lego landmark is – seven-year-old Isobel Bowell.
Together with her dad Richard, Isobel built a fantastic version of the Christ Church Tower in the Garden of Remembrance on Sandgate Road.
In total 20 entries were submitted ranging from the Grand Burstin Hotel, the Leas Lift, Martello Tower No. 3 and the Sunny Sands arches.
The top three entries win tickets to the new Lego Movie which launched this week.
Runners up were the Leas Lift, built by 11-year-old Jack Carter and in third place the Grand Burstin by Olli Dix with a bit of help from mum and dad.
Isobel, who is in year two at All Souls Primary School in Cheriton, said: “We’ve had a lot of fun. I’m really excited.”
Richard added: “We went and watched the film on Saturday and it was really good and enjoyed it. We want to do the fountain by the harbour next because we have lots of transparent pieces. We got lots of Lego out when the weather is bad in the winter.”
But the challenge doesn’t end there. Tom Langlands, who runs The Folkestonian group and organises community projects, hopes more peope will continue building landmarks.
Building on the success of the competition Tom hopes to run a pre-owned Lego exchange, helping to raise funds for children’s hospice Demelza.
He said: “It’s been a remarkable success so far with 634 votes polled but I think it’s only just got started.
“I’ve extended the challenge date until August 29 so it will now encompass both the Easter and summer school holidays, the retail release of the Lego Movie and most importantly the start of the Folkestone Triennial and hopefully a pre-owned Lego pop-up event in aid of Demelza.”
