A new film shot entirely in Folkestone and staring the town's own Jessica Hynes will have its world premiere next month.

Seagull focuses on the character of Rose, played by Gabrielle Sheppard, who returns to her home town after surviving living on a beach for eight years.

But her re-appearance haunts her alcoholic mother, Janet, played by award-winning actress and Folkestone resident Jessica Hynes, and Janet's partner, Geoff, played by Adam Radcliffe, who question why she has returned.

The psychological thriller is the first feature film directed by Peter Blach, who moved to Folkestone 10 years ago from London.

He also produced the film and co-wrote it along with James Abbott, from Dover.

And Mr Blach said Folkestone was the inspiration behind the film: "Folkestone is surrounded by an amazing scenery.

"The film was written with Folkestone in mind and with a view to take advantage of everything we have around us.

"It was 'handmade in Folkestone' and many of the cast and crew was locals.

"Half of the crew had never been on a professional film set before which meant it was a big learning curve for us all.

"Many of my friends also helped with locations, workmanship and accommodation.

"It was an amazing experience because I discovered that Folkestone is a 'YES' town.

"When ever I reached out for help, people would be excited and want to help."

Mr Blach, who has previously made several short films, put his inheritance after his father passed away into the film.

The viaduct, harbour arm, St Eanswythe Way car park and beach are just some of the landmarks visible in the film, which was shot in 2016.

But Seagull is not the only film to have been shot in the town - The Fight (2018), written and directed by Hynes, stars Russell Brand, Anita Dobson, Christopher Fairbank and Sally Phillips and features scenes of the Harbour Arm, Coastal Park and The Warren.

Someone Behind the Door (1971), staring Charles Bronson and Anthony Perkins, was also filmed in Folkestone.

Seagull will premiere at the Liverpool film festival on Sunday, November 3.

Mr Blach, originally from Denmark, hopes it will then be released publicly in the coming year.
