It's not unusual to see a child follow in their parent's footsteps when they grow up and start work.

However, the charm of seeing a father and son working together may have been lost on one Folkestone man when he was arrested by PCs Stephen and Ryan Alexander.

The father-son team were patrolling Folkestone town centre on Monday and Tuesday and arrested a man on suspicion of breaching bail conditions.

The 19-year-old, who is from Folkestone, was on bail after previously being arrested for assault.

PC Stephen Alexander is Kent Police’s Town Team Leader for Folkestone and based within the town’s community safety unit.

He joined the force in September 1994 and has spent the majority of his career in East Kent.

His son Ryan became a police officer in June 2019 having previously served as a Police Community Support Officer in Margate.

He is currently stationed with one of Folkestone’s local policing teams.

Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes, Kent Police’s District Commander for Folkestone and Hythe, said: "Both officers are passionate about their roles and serve their community with the highest amounts of professionalism and dedication.

"I know PC Stephen Alexander is extremely proud of his son’s efforts and, if his father’s career is anything to go by, I am confident he will serve the public with distinction."

The 19-year-old man, who is from Folkestone, was arrested in the Tram Road area on Tuesday and appeared before virtual court this morning.

At the hearing, he was released on bail.
