A man out walking his dog was punched by another dog owner after he feared his pet was going to be attacked.

Detectives are now investigating the alleged assault in Folkestone.

The victim was reportedly worried his dog was going to be attacked when a brown Staffordshire bull terrier was off its lead and approached his own dog.

Investigating officer Acting Det Sgt Hilary Bell said: "The victim has told us he put his leg out as he was worried the dog was going to attack his dog.

"The offender then ran over and punched him in the face."

The assault is said to have taken place at the junction of Invicta Road and Canterbury Road between 7.30pm and 7.35pm on Wednesday, February 22.

The victim, a man is his 20s, suffered cuts to his chest in a subsequent altercation, police said.

But it is not known how the cuts were caused.

The suspect is described as as white, aged between 16 and 19, about 6ft tall with brown, shoulder-length hair. He was wearing jeans and a dark blue Adidas hooded top.

His dog is described as a brown Staffordshire bull terrier-type with a black leather collar with silver studs on.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or who recognises the description.
