Police and lifeboat crews were called over concerns for a man in Folkestone harbour.
Officers were called to the harbour after becoming concerned for the man's welfare.
The incident took place at 11pm last night.
A spokesman from the Littlestone lifeboat station said they were called by police to a "gentleman in a distressed state" in the harbour.
But they were stood down by Dover Coastguard just before they entered the harbour following "a positive outcome".
A police spokesman said the man was detained under the mental health act.
