A luxury seafood restaurant now boasts a new alfresco dining experience with a barbecue.

The garden has been added to Rocksalt in Folkestone, which overlooks the English Channel and has views of the popular harbour area.

The garden opened this weekend for the first time, and sits on the Folkestone viaduct and can be directly accessed via Rocksalt’s existing Bar.

It includes a Ofyr Brasero BBQ and its own bar, situated in a refurbished Shepherd’s hut.

Owner Josh De Haan said: "The inspiration for this area and the main focal point is the Ofyr Brasero barbecue, which I discovered in a bar I frequently visit in the Alps.

“They were just cooking very simple steaks, fish and French salads, simple but just incredible to watch and enjoy.

“It gave me the idea that we could create something similar and unique in Folkestone and I knew the viaduct was the perfect spot for it.”

Rocksalt Group executive chef, Marcin Szelag added: “With a weekly changing menu, you can expect to see dishes such as whole Rye Bay Turbot, 32 aged porterhouse beef and a selection of summer sides and desserts such as grilled pineapple with clotted cream with salted caramel.”

Rocksalt originally opened in Folkestone in 2011 and in December last year was deemed to be one of the best with a view in the country by The Times.

It holds two AA Rosettes as well as being listed on the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice list in 2022.

It opened a smaller sister restaurant, Little Rock, at the harbour arm in 2021.

But earlier this year, Rocksalt was snubbed by the Michelin Guide, having lost its place on the coveted list of celebrated dining spots.

Despite having featured in previous renditions of the list, there was no clear answer as to why it had been left off.
