A petition has been launched to make a road safer, after a car flipped over and crashed into the front a house.

Mother-of-one Tracy Salisbury of New Street, Folkestone, was awoken by her rescue dog Bilbo, a mixed breed terrier, who began barking after the incident at 12.30am on Sunday, April 30.

A blue Peugeot 307 overturned after hitting the bay window of the property, which is in part of the town’s 30mph one-way road system.

The crash caused a hole in the brickwork which has temporarily been patched up with expanding foam and bricks.

Mrs Salisbury, 46, and her neighbour Sammy Rawlings have now created an online petition calling on Kent County Council to install traffic calming measures.

The pair are calling for speed bumps, a lowered speed limit of 20mph, or a stop sign instead of a give way sign.

The petition named Make New Street Safe, said: “This road is home to many families young and old, who have lived here for many years.

“We have witnessed accidents at a minimum of once a year in the last three years.

“There has been multiple accidents all caused by drivers driving to fast as well as the added amount of rain on some of the evenings where the road becomes excessively slippery.”

It is hoped that thousands of signatures will convince the authority to take action.

Mrs Salisbury said: “It is an ongoing issue, I have been here for two years and I have seen several incidents where cars have come speeding around the corner and now one has hit my house.

“It could happen again and we do want railings along the path outside.”

A paper version of the petition is set to be distributed to some town centre shops.
