Pupil at Folkestone Academy tests positive for Covid-19

A positive Covid-19 result has been confirmed at another Kent school.

A pupil at the Folkestone Academy has been confirmed as having the virus and all close contacts with the student are now self-isolating.

There has been a confirmed case at the Folkestone Academy

In total, 75 students have been sent home to self-isolate along with two members of staff.

The school has remained open to all other students.

The Academy Lane school, part of Turner Schools, has now undergone a deep clean.

Virtual learning will be set up for the pupils who are having to stay home.

A spokesperson for Folkestone Academy said: "We can confirm that a student at the academy has tested positive for Covid-19.

"In line with the Department for Education and Public Health England’s guidance and advice, all close contacts of the student are now self-isolating in line with government guidelines.

"A deep clean of Folkestone Academy has taken place as a further precautionary measure.

'The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority...'

"In the meantime, we will revert to providing virtual learning for all students whilst they are at home, so that they can continue their learning if they feel well enough to do so.

"The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority and we have written to parents to inform them and to reassure them of our processes and practices."

This is the third school in the Folkestone district to have a confirmed case of coronavirus.

Both Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone and Brockhill Park in Hythe have also reported positive results.

In addition, the leader of Brockhill has hit out at parents for bombarding the school and its staff with questions via email and phone calls .

She says the overwhelming number of queries is putting a drain on teachers.
