Residents are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers.

Officers made the appeal to residents in Lydd after it was revealed cash was stolen from a house in The Green.

A police spokesman would not be drawn on the total value of the money taken but said it was "a small amount".

The distraction burglary was reported to police after it was said to have happened between 8.30pm and 9pm on Monday, May 7.

Detective Sergeant Ben Howard raised the concerns during an appeal for information about the incident.

"A man described as white, in his 30s and wearing a cap, called at the property and claimed he was from the water board.

"He had two other people with him and they entered the house.

"Once inside a search was carried out and then the suspects left. The victim in his 60s reported cash stolen.

"We are making enquiries into this report, and ask anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible on 01843 222289 quoting ZY/024394/18.

"Remember, if someone comes to your door, whether or not you were expecting them, do not be afraid to ask them for identification and check they are genuine first before letting them inside your home.

"If in doubt ask them to leave and come back when a family member or friend can be with you."
