Four members of the same family remain in a serious condition in hospital this afternoon after a crash that left a boy, seven, dead.

The youngster died after the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry yesterday on the A20 near Hythe.

His two siblings remain in a "critical condition" this morning while their parents are said to be recovering from their injuries.

Police say some witnesses have now come forward with information on what's been described as a "tragic" crash.

They were called out at 9.30am yesterday to the crash in Saltwood which was closed for five hours.

A grey Kia Soul was in the crash with a black DAF lorry on the London-bound carriageway, leaving the road shut in both directions for more than four hours.

The entire family of five inside the Kia - all from Leeds in West Yorkshire - suffered serious injuries, with the young boy tragically dying at the scene.

The others - including the two young children - were flown to hospitals in London following the incident.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with hand injuries and was in a "stable condition".

Investigating officer, PC Dawn Smith of Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was clearly a tragic incident and we continue to work to ensure we have the full picture of the circumstances that led to the collision.

"I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken with police to contact us as soon as possible."

They have spoken to the woman driver of a blue vehicle who stopped at the scene to assist with traffic control.
