Rogue traders have struck Folkestone and New Romney touting for house repairs and driveway work.

One man has been knocking on doors in Folkestone offering a free external house survey, which he carries out by tapping the walls with a small hammer.

He then claims that they need treatment, which will cost the homeowner large sums.

Kent County Council Trading Standards also say that other cowboys have been targeting several properties for driveway work in the New Romney area.

The latest spate of incidents has also included the Vinters area of Maidstone where callers have targeted homeowners for driveway work. But they did not give the required paperwork, which must include cancellation rights.

A Trading Standards spokesman said: Watch out for rogue traders targeting homeowners with overpriced, unnecessary and often very poor work to properties.”

The organisation is currently running a campaign called Say No! to Rogue Trades.

Their message specifically is say no to uninvited callers, cash payments, unnecessary repairs and say no politely and firmly.

It says you do not have to agree to work being offered, should always ask for a written quite and get at least three from alternative businesses.

You also have a seven-day cooling off period when buying on your doorstep. Find out more at www.adviceguide.org.uk.
