Bosses have responded to rumours a new McDonald’s could be opening in a Kent town.
Posts on social media reported that a new branch of the fast food chain could be built and opened in the car park of Tesco, in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone.
A source told Kent Online's sister paper Folkestone & Hythe Express: "When asking Mcdonald's managers about it they were surprised that the information was out and that it's still in the planning stages."
Another commenter, who posted on the We Love Folkestone Group, even suggested proposals for the restaurant were in 'planning stages'.
But a search of Folkestone and Hythe District Council's planning portal reveals no applications have been submitted.
And following calls to the company, the rumours can now be put to bed.
Bosses say there are currently no plans to open a new restaurant in the town but added it remains on their "radar".
A McDonald’s spokesman said: "We are always looking for new opportunities to expand our business.
"Although we are not currently looking at any specific sites in Folkestone, the town remains on our radar."
Folkestone and Hythe District Council also confirmed it had not received any plans for a new Mcdonald's.
There are currently two Mcdonald's in Folkestone - one in the Sandgate Lanes Shopping Centre, off West Terrace, and one at the Park Farm retail estate.
