One of Kent's biggest employers has announced that job cuts are on the cards.

Folkestone-based travel firm Saga says the redundancies will follow an "internal review of structures" as it looks to become more efficient.

It is not known how many members of staff risk losing their job, but it is understood colleagues were told today about the changes.

A spokesman for the group said today: "As part of its strategy to improve performance, Saga previously announced plans to look for efficiencies across the business and has now started an internal review of structures which is expected to lead to job cuts.

"The key focus of the review is on improving the service we provide to customers and members.

"Where possible, these job cuts will be achieved through voluntary redundancies.

"We appreciate that this will be a difficult time for all of our colleagues, and we are focused on ensuring that they receive all the support they need."

The company, which sells travel and insurance for the over-50s, currently employs 3,000 people across its sites in Folkestone and Thanet.

Last month it was revealed it had taken a £4million hit following the collapse of travel firm Thomas Cook.

There has been a lot of changes at the firm as of late.

The firm's CEO Lance Batchelor stepped down in last month, with Euan Sutherland, formerly the boss of fashion firm Superdry hired to replace him.

It also launched its newest ship, Spirit of Discovery, last year.
