A suspected thief is due in court today following a string of crimes in Ashford and Folkestone.

Kent Police's Chief Constable's Crime Squad investigated reports of several break-ins in the towns during September and October.

On Thursday, September 10, cash, jewellery and watches were taken from a property in Kennington, near Ashford, and a house in Folkestone was attempted to be burgled.

The next day, jewellery was stolen from a house in Folkestone and a house in Ashford.

A month later on Saturday, October 10, police investigated the theft of cash from a property in Ashford and the attempted burglary of another house in the town.

And cash was taken from a property in Folkestone on Sunday, October 11 and foreign currency, a watch and handbags were taken from a property in Westgate-on-Sea, Thanet, the following day.

Jimmy Gilheaney, 38, was arrested and has now been charged with six counts of burglary and two counts of attempted burglary.

Mr Gilheaney, of Bradstone Road, Bristol, is due to appear before Medway Magistrates' Court today (Monday).
