Motorists are experiencing long delays on a main road following a crash.

Police were called at around 8.30am during the rush hour to the A260 Canterbury Road in Selstead close to the A2 junction.

Two cars had collided into each other and despite initial reports a dustcart was involved it had helped stopped to assist officers.

Traffic has been tailing back in both directions after police closed the road to deal with the incident.

It adds to more traffic misery with delays expected on the M20 after police put Operation Stack into force this morning due to industrial action being taken in Calais.

The cars involved were a Vauxhall Corsa and a Jaguar.

KM photographer Ruth Cuerden was caught up in the queues on her way to work.

She said: "There were massive queues back towards Hawkinge.

"I cut round past Selstead Primary School and came back out on to the main road just before the hill down in to Denton and the queues were right down to there too."

Buses have also been forced to stop calling between Swingfield and Kingston Turning.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 8.20am to the A260 Canterbury Road following reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

"No injuries were reported and officers attended to assist with managing the traffic while the vehicles were recovered.

"The road was re-opened at 10am."
