A celebration of the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix is taking place this week.

The Hendrix Weekend is taking place at venues across Folkestone from Thursday 22 to Sunday, November 25.

Today, from 4.30pm to 7pm 'Music Memories' will take place at Space 7 Gallery while on Friday at 9pm 'Freak Flag' will take place at Chambers.

On Saturday from 10am until 3pm there will be a busking stage at Noel's Yard at Market Place, Folkestone, named after Noel Redding. Mr Redding was from the district and was a singer and bass player for the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Other events include Beardy Record Box at Space 7 Gallery from 8pm until late on Saturday, as well as Jimi Jam Night at Jamjar from 8pm.

On Sunday at 3.30pm, Space 7 Gallery will host Oliver V, a Jimi Hendrix tribute artist.

Noel Redding grew up in Cliff Road, Seabrook, where their family had a bed and breakfast house.

He was born at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Folkestone, on Christmas Day 1945.

He attended Harvey Grammar School, where his musical talent began to blossom. The first instrument he learned was the violin, when he was nine.

His first public appearance was at the Hythe Youth Club.

Noel’s first local bands were The Strangers and then The Lonely Ones, who made a four-track EP at Hayton Manor Studio in Stanford in 1963.
