The Conservatives have won a town council by-election.

Cllr Dick Pascoe has been elected to Hawkinge Town Council following yesterday's poll.

The results were announced during the count this morning at the Three Hills Sports Park in Folkestone.

Cllr Pascoe took 209 (43.9%) of the 476 votes cast for the Uphill ward on the town council with a majority of 62 votes.

Ukip took second place with candidate Stephen Priestley polling 147 with the Liberal Democrat's Ross Clark coming in third with 120 votes.

The turnout was 31.8%.

Cllr Pascoe, who lives in Horsley Close in Hawkinge, is also a sitting Shepway district councillor for Folkestone Central ward.

He is a former fireman and served at Folkestone fire station in charge of Green Watch.

His hobbies include photography, bowls and angling and is a keen motorcyclist.
