A group of travellers who set up an illegal camp on a town green have now left, after the town council issued a court order.

The encampment was set up on land in Hawkinge, part of the Folkestone district, for around a week.

Complaints were made to Hawkinge Town Council, police and also appeared on social media.

Issues included leaving litter at the site, between Haven Drive and Hurricane Way, and children throwing stones.

Last Wednesday the town council attended court and obtained a Possession Order, giving the group 24 hours to leave the site.

It was issued on Thursday.

But the group did not leave until Saturday lunchtime, leaving litter on the land.

Rubbish left behind included car bits, used nappies, broken toys and general rubbish.

This is not the first time travellers have pitched up in the district.

Hythe Town Council issued a court order after a group set up camp in Horn Street last month.
