Three people have been rescued after getting stuck in mud.

Teams from the coastguard, as well as two fire engines, were called to Folkestone Harbour at 10.30am this morning.

The trio - two men and one woman - were safely pulled from the mud, although the ambulance was also sent to the seafront, near Sunny Sands beach.

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "Just before 10.30am today, we (HM Coastguard) had a call that three people were stuck in the mud in the harbour at Folkestone.

"Dungeness, Langdon and Folkestone coastguard rescue teams were sent, along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"All three were extracted safely."

A fire service spokesman said: "The two women and a man were struggling to get out near The Stade, and had sunk waist deep when Kent Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the emergency.

"Two fire engines and the water rescue unit was sent to the scene.

"Together with colleagues from the Coastguard, firefighters were able to reach them using mud paths, then with the help of an air lance the three were pulled out of the mud and carried back to dry land where they were placed into the care of paramedics from SECAmb."
