Witnesses sought to Folkestone town centre assault

A woman was reportedly spat at and punched in the face during a town centre assault.

The victim was walking in Sandgate Road, Folkestone on Tuesday at around 9.20am when she was reportedly shouted at in the street by a man she knew.

A verbal exchange between the pair is said to have led to the woman being spat at and punched in the face.

The woman reported the incident to the police and a man, aged 32 from Folkestone, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.

He has since been released on police bail until Wednesday, March 31.

Now, witnesses are being asked to come forward to help the investigation.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers are asking for witnesses, who were in the area at the time of the incident near to the junction with West Cliff Gardens, to come forward with any information that could assist with their investigation."
