Work to replace the one-way system on The Tram Road in Folkestone allowing two-way traffic begins next week.

The improvement scheme is due to last six weeks, weather permitting, and is part of wider changes to the road network in Folkestone.

Lane closures will be in place and a diversion set up while the work is completed.

The scheme was supported at the December 2012 Shepway Joint Transportation Board.

Kent County Council say it hopes the changes will improve road access to and from the harbour area, Old Town and Creative Quarter as significant visitor destinations and create a more direct route in and out of the harbour area for residents and visitors.

It also says it hopes to create a network that will support a better bus service which it says cannot do so under the current system.

A zebra crossing will be constructed near to the junction with Ryland Place and The Tram Road.

A temporary road closure will be in place for one night at the junction of Ryland Place and The Tram Road to install headroom signing on the Radnor Bridge Road bridge face on the northbound approach.

KCC also announced today that The Crescent in Sandgate will be closed to traffic from Monday for up to three days between 8.30am and 4.30pm while work to repair a burst water main.

The road will be closed at the junction with Sandgate High Street.

A diversion is in place via Sandgate High Street, Wilberforce Road and The Crescent.
