Armed police descended on Folkestone today after a man was spotted with a weapon.
Officers launched a hunt for the man after he fled the Black Bull Road area after a disturbance at 10.15am.
It was reported he left the scene carrying a gun.
The search led to a 35-year-old man from Folkestone being arrested. He remains in custody as enquiries continue.
A witness spotted officers and police vehicles in St John's Church Road, around the corner from Radnor Park, at lunchtime.
She said: "I heard shouting and I looked outside and there were police cars and officers holding guns at a house on the road where I work."
Other reports on social media suggested someone was spotted in town with a gun.
A spokesman for police said: "Kent Police was called at 10.14am to a disturbance in Black Bull Road, Folkestone.
"During the incident a man is reported to have been seen with a weapon before leaving the area on foot.
"Patrols, including armed officers, attended and carried out a search of the area and one man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
"No injuries have been reported and enquiries at the scene are ongoing."
