Money laundering arrests after money found in cars at Channel Tunnel in Folkestone

Five people have been arrested after more than £50,000 was found in cars trying to leave the UK.

The cash was discovered by Border Force officials at the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone on Saturday.

Two separate cars were stopped a the outbound tourist controls in Cheriton, where cash totalling about £54,000 was found.

Three women in their twenties – two from Hertfordshire and the third of no fixed address – were arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

A 25-year-old man from Hertfordshire and a 33-year-old man from London were also arrested for the same offence.

All five have been released from custody pending further inquiries.
