A Folkestone man has appeared at crown court today accused of murdering father-of-two Tim Clayton.
Brian Sharp, 54, spoke only once at the 10-minute hearing at Canterbury to confirm his name.
Sharp, of Manor Road, has been charged with killing 45-year-old Mr Clayton.
He will enter his plea in March next year and a provisional trial date was also set by Judge Adele Williams for June 2014.
The trial is expected to take between two to three weeks and Sharp was remanded in custody.
His barrister, Oliver Saxby QC, made no application for bail.
Mr Clayton was found unconscious from head injuries in a car park behind Europa House, the Natwest bank building in Sandgate Road, early on Saturday.
He died from his injuries the following day in the Royal London Hospital.
Mr Clayton's son and daughter said later they wanted their father to be remembered as a man who would go out of his way to help others.
They were speaking after setting up a memorial of flowers to him at the top of Folkestone's Road of Remembrance.
His son and daughter - Jessica, 22, and 21-year-old Jake - said they have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from their father's friends.
A social media group has also been set up in his memory, and has been joined by hundreds of people.
Jessica said: "Dad was always smiling. We all knew he had his demons but despite what was going on in his life, he would always go out of his way to help other people."
