A pensioner has ploughed a car into a shop, causing delays on a busy town road this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Black Bull Road in Folkestone after a man in his 70s drove into the corner of the Kes Electronics shop.

The red Kia is wedged into the corner of the building after narrowly missing the shop window but there is not thought to be any structural damage to the building.

The road was closed shortly before midday.

Police stopped drivers going up the hill and directed traffic back towards Foord Road in the direction of the harbour.

A spokesman said: "Police were called by SECAmb [ambulance service] at 11.53am to reports that a car had collided with a wall in Black Bull Road.

"The driver was a man in his 70s. There are no reported injuries and no apparent structural damage to the wall."

Paramedic teams were also called, but the man only suffered minor injuries.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We had two ambulance cars attend the scene and a man checked over at the scene.

"But he doesn't require further hospital treatment and is going to be discharged at the scene."
