Two cars and a trailer carrying more than £1,000 worth of suspected stolen fuel have been seized from a service station.

The vehicles were suspected of either being stolen or being used to commit crime.

The trailer was carrying a container of diesel, also believed to be stolen.

No arrests were made but inquiries are continuing.

Inspector Julien Lawton said: "An unauthorised encampment on private land is subject to the laws of trespass, which is a civil matter.

"However, we were at the scene to support our partner agencies and the private landowner regarding the matter."

He added: "Our collaborative work led to the identification of suspected stolen vehicles and we are now making inquiries to establish who they belong to and who is responsible for the thefts."

The raid happened on Friday at 12.30pm but details have just been released.
