A burglar who crept through a cat flap, stole bottles of wine, clothes and bank cards before helping himself to the victim's food has been jailed for more than two years.
Jan Gina, of Cambridge Gardens in Folkestone, squeezed into a property in Earls Avenue in May while the occupants were asleep.
The 20-year-old stole a number of valuable items from the home, before helping himself to a cooked fish cake and leaving the food half eaten on the kitchen table.
The incident was reported to police and Gina's DNA was found on the fish cake.
Enquiries to locate him led officers to a disused building in Grimston Gardens where Gina was found hiding in a wardrobe on Monday, May 13.
The stolen items were also located there and Gina was found with five bags of herbal cannabis in his backpack.
The thief was charged with burglary and possession of cannabis.
Despite initially denying the charges and claiming he did not like fish, he later pleaded guilty and was sentenced today at Canterbury Crown Court to two years and four months in prison.
Investigating officer, DC Beth Gumley, said: "Gina crept around the property while the victims were inside, asleep and completely unaware.
"Luckily we were able to return the stolen items and Gina has now been imprisoned.
"Burglary is such an intrusive crime and the impact on victims is not underestimated.
"This is why we will do everything within our power to seek justice and ensure those breaking the law are put before the courts."
