A KENT teenager's bravery and courage has won national recognition.
Luke Moran, a pupil at the Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone, has been presented with a Diana Memorial Award which celebrates the achievements of ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. The award is given to young people aged 12-18.
Luke, 17, was nominated by his school, after a battle with a cancer related disease 15 months ago. Despite poor health, he not only fought the illness bravely, but also managed to do his GCSEs, while at the same time being an inspiration to staff and fellow students.
The youngster is now in remission and studying for his A'levels in English, History and Sociology. He is applying for a place at Cambridge University.
The school's deputy head Phil Harding said: "We nominated Luke for his courage and bravery when battling with the disease. He is very pleasant and level headed and seems to have taken it all in his stride.
"He missed quite a lot of school near the time of his GCSEs but still managed to take them and did very well."
The Diana Memorial Award was launched in 2000. Since the scheme began more than 4,500 students from 1,500 schools across the UK have received awards.
