Did you nearly run down fleeing raider?

Police are appealing for a witness to come forward following an armed robbery at a supermarket. In particular they would like to talk to the woman driver of a blue car who nearly ran into the suspect as he was chased across the car park at the Sainsburys' store, on the Park Farm Industrial Estate in Folkestone.

The man entered the shop apparently wielding a handgun at about 4.20pm last Thursday. He made threats to the guard before stealing a cash box. Members of the public chased the man and he was nearly struck by the car, possibly a Fiesta, when he ran across the car park.

The suspect then ran across Linksway, before getting into a waiting silver Audi A4 saloon car that drove off at speed.

The Audi was abandoned in Belinda Court, Folkestone, and the cash box was discarded in the car with some cash still in it after the security dye pack had been activated.

The red or orange dye would have contaminated skin and clothes of anyone handling it. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and is likely to be stained along the edges with red dye.

Police are appealing for the driver of the blue car to come forward to help with inquiries. The woman driver is described as in her mid 30's. A girl of about eight or nine years old was travelling in the front passenger seat.

The woman was not involved in the robbery but police believe she may have vital information and urge her to contact them

Police say the man they want to question is white, medium build and height and in his 20s. He was wearing a grey hooded top and dark glasses.
