A bust-up involving members of a Gurkha gang known as The Dragon Guys ended with four people being taken to hospital, it has been alleged.
The attack happened near the Cadet Hall in Church Road, Cheriton in October 2012 after a fall-out between former friends and members of the Gurkha Regiment.
A jury at Canterbury Crown Court has heard how it ended with an attack involving a kukri – a traditional Gurkha knife – and a brick.
Christopher Bradley, 57, of Shaftesbury Avenue, Folkestone has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault, possessing an offensive weapon and affray.
Gurkha soldier Lil Roka, 37, of Sevastopol Place, Canterbury has denied unlawful wounding, wounding with intent, three assaults, possessing an unlawful weapon and affray.
The jury at Canterbury Crown Court heard that Roka was absent and was being tried in his absence.
Prosecutor Vivian Walters alleged that during the punch-up, Roka – who ran the New Moon Restaurant in the town - was armed with a knife and Bradley with a brick.
She said: "In October 2012 there had been a leaving party in a cafe in Cheriton which was attended by a number of Nepalese people, formerly served as soldiers with the Royal Gurkha Regiment."
The prosecutor claimed that Prem Gahamagar – who was at the farewell do – received a text message from Roka which read: "If you are really your father’s son come to my bar and have a talk".
Ms Walters said that they agreed to meet in a car park when Roka and three men – including Bradley - then arrived.
"Roka and Bradley attacked the group," she said. "Mr Gahamagar tried to escape in a car and was attacked as he called police for help."
"He started to stab me but I leaned back in the passenger seat. At that time I did feel the pointed part of the knife touching my body. Then I thought this man is going to kill me definitely..." - Prem Gahamagar
Mr Gahamagar told the jury how Bradley smashed the window with a brick so he grabbed it from him and it was then Lil Roka tried to stab him.
He claimed: "He was trying to stab me using the knife but there wasn't much space (in the car) and he couldn't do that.
"After Bradley lost the brick he stepped back and there was enough space.
"Then he started to stab me but I leaned back in the passenger seat, at that time I did feel the pointed part of the knife touching my body. Then I thought this man is going to kill me definitely.
"Since the knife was quite long I grabbed it by the blade. I was unable to take the knife away from him and cut my thumb.
"He was very angry and he was prepared to do anything."
The prosecutor said there had been an argument between the former friends about membership of a group known as The Dragon Guys.
She also said that the car driver Pawan Rai saw the defendants running towards him with a knife and was cut across arm with the knife.
He said that Bradley then swung at his head with the brick but he managed to duck out of the way. He also saw Roka punching other people and went to stop it but was then punched in the side of the head.
"Andriyas Rai – another of the witnesses – said he saw the two running around attacking anyone who was there," she claimed.
The jury heard that Mr Rai received a broken tooth and bruising to his face after being struck with the butt of the knife and was later knocked out by another blow to the back of his head.
Ms Walters added: "He didn’t remember anything else until he woke up in the back of the ambulance on the way to hospital."
Another witness Raj Pun told police how he pleaded with Roka and Bradley to stop but was stabbed through his jacket and punched by Bradley.
The trial continues.
