Road works that have caused traffic delays of up to two hours this week could be finished early.

Motorists heading to the Park Farm Industrial Estate and Churchill Avenue in Folkestone have become stuck in gridlock traffic due to a set of temporary traffic lights that have been installed.

Cars have queued from the bypass road and through Park Farm Road, blocking access to many of the chain brands that occupy the retail park.

UK Power Network engineers are having to lay 54 metres of new underground electricity cable and estimated that the job would take nine days, starting from Monday.

But on the first day of work, people reported getting stuck during the day and in the early evening for up to an hour at a time.

As a result, many people claim they are avoiding the area to prevent themselves from getting stuck in traffic.

A spokesman for the company said: "UK Power Networks engineers are working as quickly as possible to complete work in Churchill Avenue, Folkestone.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"Work started Monday to install 54 metres of new underground electricity cable and was authorised to last until Tuesday, February 7.

"We are aiming to complete the works by this Friday."
