KENT Police have released images of diamond robbers who escaped with gems worth about £60,000 from a jewellers.
Three men, all in their early twenties, took less than a minute to raid the window display of Simmonds in Sandgate Road, Folkestone, escaping with some 60 items.
But in their haste they left behind some of the more precious rings, worth between £4,000 and £13,000 each.
The robbers entered the store and ushered four members of staff members into a back office. One of the men said he had a gun in a carrier bag, although no firearm was seen during the incident.
A shocked customer in the shop at the time managed to get away and run to the neighbouring Cancer Research UK charity shop where she was comforted by manager Elaine Hadden who called the police.
However, officers were already on their way because estate agents opposite had noticed the trio in a silver Volvo S40 in Cheriton Place acting suspiciously and dialled 999. The Volvo was used as the getaway vehicle after the robbery.
Simmonds manager Tony Wade said: "Thankfully no one was hurt. Nothing has happened like this before. Maybe I am being naive, but I doubt any reputable jewellers will take the pieces because they are so distinctive, coming from abroad and not being available in this country. And at least 30 bear a Simmonds hallmark."
The images of the men were captured on Simmonds' recently-installed digital security camera system. Anyone with information regarding last Friday's raid is asked to contact Det Con Mark Mason on 01303 850055.
