A massive emergency rescue was underway this evening after reports someone had fallen down a cliff near Folkestone.

Police, paramedics, the air ambulance and coastguard vehicles are attending the scene at the coast in Capel Le Ferne.

At least three police cars, an ambulance and two tactical response vehicles have been spotted near the Battle of Britain Memorial.

The coastguard are also attending the scene and it is understood that a person is currently stranded on the cliff face after falling.

The Kent Air Ambulance was also present alongside a coastguard helicopter aiding in the incident – but left just before 7pm.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "At 1.22pm today, HM Coastguard received a report of a person in difficulty on the cliff face at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone.

"Dover Coastguard sent Folkestone, Deal and Langdon Coastguard Rescue Teams to locate the person and complete a technical rope rescue, to take the person to a place of safety.

"This is an ongoing multi-agency incident response - we have been working with Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service."
