A young woman says she felt as if the “whole side of her body was on fire” after a motorcycle crash left her with serious injuries.

The 21-year-old flipped over the front of her bike and was lying in the road for two hours outside the BP garage in Seabrook Road, Hythe.

Police and ambulance crews attended the scene on Monday evening and Katie – who asked KentOnline not to use her surname – was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

The Folkestone resident says she rode into the back of the vehicle - destroying her bike – after the car suddenly stopped.

The driver reportedly left the scene of the crash before returning to speak with officers at the scene.

Katie now remains in hospital with two pelvic fractures and a broken right shoulder, and has told KentOnline she has “never felt pain like it”.

“Some members of the public were amazing,” she said.

“A couple charged my phone in their car and a woman laid in the road with me for two hours to look after me.

“Luckily, there were a couple of medically trained members of the public at the scene who helped out too.”

Despite the wait, Katie expressed her gratitude to the emergency services and said they were “brilliant”.

However, the council-contracted care worker says she fears for her job as she does not know when she will be able to work again.

She added: “Doctors are not sure when I will be able to go home. I live in a top-floor flat, so I won't be able to go home until I can look after myself and my pain is managed.

“I am feeling quite stressed. I don't know what's happening with work, is insurance going to cover my bike? I just don't know what's happening at the moment.”

Katie was riding a Skyjet 125 and says she was travelling at “around 15mph” at the time.

Despite the traumatic experience, the ordeal has not put her off riding again in the future.

She went on: “The bike only cost me about £1,500, but it was a lot for me.

“I put so much time and effort into this bike, it was my baby.

“I haven’t been riding bikes for long but it has not put me off it. I have been sitting in the hospital bed looking for new bikes.”.

Police say there is no cause for further investigation into the incident after speaking to witnesses and the driver at the scene.
