A landmark decision on plans for the massive redevelopment of a Kent seafront has been turned down this evening.
Detailed proposals for more than 400 new homes at Folkestone harbour were considered by the planning committee at Folkestone and Hythe District Council – with officers recommending the plans be given the green light.
But in a shock move after more than three hours of debate the plan was rejected by councillors.
The controversial transformation of the harbour – which is a popular leisure destination for locals and tourists alike – is part of a wider regeneration of the town’s seafront being spearheaded by billionaire philanthropist Sir Roger De Haan.
