Lucky escape for driver as car catches fire at Valiant Sailor pub, New Dover Road, Capel-le-Ferne

A car driver had a lucky escape when his vehicle burst into flames.

The incident happened in the car park of the Valiant Sailor pub at Capel-le-Ferne at 1.20pm on Saturday.

Watch manager Dave White, from Folkestone fire station, said: “The driver was going up New Dover Road when the car became sluggish.

“He pulled into the pub car park and it went up in flames – I don’t think he’d had it that long.”

The car, a Peugeot 407, was destroyed.
