One witness said a red lorry had crasehed with trees on the London-bound carriageway, forcing the closure of one lane.

Traffic cameras in the area show queues of traffic building up on the motorway and drivers heading towards London on the M20 should expect delays of 10 minutes.

Emergency services are attending the scene of the crash, but it is not currently known if there are any injuries.

KCC Highways tweeted: “M20 J13-J12 London bound. 1 lane blocked approaching J12 (Cheriton) due to an RTC. Emergency services attending. Expect delays in the area. Approach with caution.”

A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called to a report of a collision involving a lorry at 5.53am on Wednesday 26 April 2023.

“Officers attended the scene on the London-bound M20 near the Junction 12 slip road.

“It was reported the lorry had left the carriageway and collided with foliage.
