Folkestone man accused of sending 'racist online abuse' after England lost to Italy in Euro 2020 final

A suspect has been charged with posting a racist video online after England's Euro 2020 final defeat.

Bradford Pretty, of Guildhall Street in Folkestone, is accused of sending a message which was "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character" after the penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy on July 11.

Kent Police received a referral from the national football policing unit after the video was linked to an address in the county.

The 49-year-old was arrested two days after the Wembley defeat, before being released from custody pending further evaluation of the case by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Senior crown prosecutor Mark Tavender said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Kent Police to charge Bradford Pretty, 49, with sending an obscene message via a social media network.

"We made the decision to charge Mr Pretty after reviewing a file of evidence from Kent Police relating to allegations of racist online abuse after the Euro 2020 final."

Mr Pretty is charged with sending a message via the internet that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character and is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on October 6.
