A man has told of the terrifying ordeal of being attacked and robbed in the street while out on his 21st birthday.
Danny Wallis bravely fought back against his attackers but was punched in Folkestone and left in the road drifting in and out of consciousness.
Mr Wallis, who had been out with his dad earlier that evening on August 19, told KentOnline: “I was scared for my life.
“What they did was disgusting, it was two against one and nobody was there to help me. I was even in a town that I don't really know.
“Since it happened I am afraid to go out on my own, I always have to be with someone.”
Mr Wallis, from Dover, had been celebrating his milestone birthday last Saturday with his father in Hythe and caught the bus home.
He left the bus at Folkestone Bus Station to walk on to Folkestone Central railway station but not knowing the area particularly well got lost.
It was then that he noticed two young men following him and he stopped at a car park in Tontine Street to speak to them.
He explained: “I said: ‘I know you are following me, have you got an issue?’
“They didn’t answer. I walked on to Black Bull Road and they were still following me.
“I said: ‘Can you leave me, alone, you’re scaring me.’
“The next thing, one of them punched me in the face and I punched him back.
“Then the second man punched me and knocked me unconscious.”
The thugs then stole Mr Wallis’ wallet and disappeared, leaving him sprawled in the street and lying between two cars.
“What they did was disgusting, it was two against one and nobody was there to help me, I was scared for my life...”
Mr Wallis fell unconscious twice as he made calls to family and friends to come to his aid.
Eventually his elder brother, who lives in the town, managed to find him to take care of him.
“It’s difficult to remember everything that happened but my brother said: ‘Get off the road.’,” Mr Wallis added.
“I had been left between parked cars.”
He suffered a swollen eye, two lacerations inside the mouth and a swollen lip, plus soft tissue damage to his right hand after punching back.
The 21-year-old had a CT scan later in hospital but was found not to have long term damage.
The wallet the robbers took had credit cards and £603 in cash including money which had been give to Mr Wallis for his birthday.
Mr Wallis estimates he was attacked in Black Bull Road at about 11.30pm.
A Kent Police spokesman said: “We are investigating a report that a man was assaulted and had his wallet stolen in Folkestone.
“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone who witnessed anything suspicious between Folkestone Bus Station and Black Bull Road is urged to contact us.”
