A man "hanging" from a rooftop in Folkestone had to be rescued by firefighters yesterday evening.

Paramedics were also called to the scene in Canterbury Road at just after 5.10pm.

The emergency services attended following reports the man had fallen from a ladder on the single story rooftop.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "Just after 5.10pm we were called. One ambulance attended the scene and we requested the fire service attend.

"It was described as hanging from the roof and reported that he was stable but fully conscious and taken to William Harvey Hospital with pain in his back."

They added he was not seriously injured and is recovering in hospital.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "Crew at the scene used a stretcher to help the man off the roof and into the care of the ambulance service."
