A man who died trying to escape police from a second floor window was wanted in connection with a series of crimes.
Robert Goodey, 35, of the Bayle, Folkestone, faced allegations of assaulting a female, coercive and controlling behaviour in a relationship, and failing to surrender to the authorities.
Officers were trying to arrest Mr Goodey when he fled a property through the window in George Lane, Folkestone, on March 16 at 10.30pm.
Mr Goodey was due to appear at Margate Magistrate’s Court today for four crimes allegedly committed between July and September last year.
His death prompted an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which was then passed back to Kent Police’s Local Investigation Team.
A spokesman for the IOPC previously said: “When there is a death or serious injury by default the IOPC investigates.
“In this case we have looked at all the details presented to us and passed the case back to Kent Police’s Local Investigation Team to look at.
“I’m unable to go into a level of detail explaining why because there can be so many factors involved.”
After the fall Mr Goodey was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries but later died at Kings College Hospital in London.
A cordon remained in place between Rendezvous Street and The Old High Street for much of the day after his death while an investigation was launched.
On Monday flowers appeared outside the Super Pizza takeaway outlet, near the top of the Old High Street, where the incident happened.
A Kent Police spokesman said: “While officers were gaining entry to a premises in George Lane, Folkestone on Friday, March 16, at 10.30pm to carry out an arrest, a man exited the property through a second floor window.
“South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and the man was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.”
