Butter left in microwave too long causes kitchen fire in Folkestone

A fire that needed two fire crews to put out was started by a resident melting butter in a microwave.

The butter was forgotten and left in too long, setting the kitchen of a home in Brockman Road, Folkestone, on fire.

Two fire engines were called just after 8am and their crews wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, before clearing the property of smoke with a high-pressured fan.

There were no reported injuries.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service reminds everyone that while the kitchen is the “heart of the home”, it is also the room where more home fires start.

The crews were able to leave the scene an hour later.
