A MAN'S body has been found on the French side of the Channel Tunnel. His identity, age and nationality have not yet been established, but it is believed he was an asylum seeker, trying to illegally enter Britain.
It is thought he probably fell from a train.
A spokesman for Eurotunnel said: "The body of a man was found by maintenance workers in the French section of the tunnel, about 18 miles from the French terminal at about 2am on Monday. French police attended and the body was taken to France for a post mortem."
She said she could not confirm he was an asylum seeker, but said he was not a Eurotunnel employee.
If it is confirmed that the dead man was an asylum seeker it would be the second death among immigrants this year. Last year seven died after stowing away on trains heading for Britain.
