Eurotunnel has been struck by delays of up to an hour for its passenger services at Folkestone.
It comes on top of the traffic mayhem for holidaymakers trying to reach the Port of Dover since Thursday.
The company reports that this is due to a problem with a loader wagon, which is being dealt with.
A spokesman said: "We had a problem with a loader wagon earlier, but technicians are working to get it back into operations, so the service is improving. The waiting times are reducing and will return to normal this afternoon."
Traffic reports had first warned of delays at Eurotunnel after 11am today.
The problems at Dover have come from high volumes of holidaymaker traffic, as schools have broken up, aggravated by technical issues P&O Ferries had on Thursday.
Tailbacks spilled into Dover town centre with snarl-ups this morning at the Five Ways junction at Maison Dieu Road and Park Avenue.
Tailbacks on the A2 Jubilee Way had gone beyond the Duke of York's Roundabout.
