Operation Stack - stage two removed

Phase two of Operation Stack on the M20 between Leeds Castle and Ashford has been removed.

It was imposed today because of port control staff at Calais and Boulogne staging a 24-hour strike.

Phase one between junctions 11 (Hythe) and 12 (Cheriton) coastbound, with a contra-flow to allow traffic to continue to flow in both directions, is still in place.

Port control officers are due to meet on Thursday morning to determine if strike action will be continued.

If the strike action is resumed, phase two and one of Operation Stack will be reintroduced.

Ferry services between Dover and Calais are being disrupted because of the strike. P&O Ferries have one sailing every hour to 90 minutes. NorfolkLine sailings from Dover to Dunkirk and SpeedFerries fast-craft services to Boulogne are said to be operating as normal.

Eurostar and Eurotunnel services are running, although service remains limited due to last month’s fire.

Hauliers and motorists travelling coastbound from Ashford and Maidstone are being warned to delay and stagger journeys if possible.
