An outdoor cinema showcasing the world cup and international films will grace the Kent coast this weekend.

Measure 7.5 x 4 metres, the "state-of-the-art" screen will also play the Wimbledon Championships later this year, at Folkestone Harbour Arm.

In a post on social media networking site Facebook a company spokesperson wrote: “Folkestone Harbour Arm are excited to announce the latest edition to our rapidly growing space; a large outdoor cinema screen by the sea.

“Over the coming summer months, this state-of-the-art LED panel screen, measuring 7.5 metres by 4 metres, will show a brilliant selection of international films from the last 60 years of cinema.

“As the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off, we are looking forward to turning on our screen for all this year’s matches, starting this weekend.

“Screening of the Wimbledon Championships will begin from July 2.”

Harbour Arm bosses are yet to announce cinema show times but the company has been contacted for comment.

It comes as the firm released a series of social media posts depicting snaps of the big-screen's development.

They show a large scaffolding frame set up in the car park at the base of the Harbour Arm alongside three new wooden huts.

Folkestone and Hythe district council leader David Monk welcomed the new attraction.

“This is just another indication of how the renaissance of Folkestone continues,” he said.

The LED screen is the latest addition in a string of developments on Folkestone Harbour Company’s (FHC) public space.

Plans are underway for a new permanent staircase complete with lift access to be built on the viaduct walkway connected to the Harbour Arm.

And proposals to bulldoze the old ticket office, previously housing the fisherman’s museum, also surfaced last month.

The plans are part of FHC’s wider project to build up to 1,000 homes on Folkestone seafront.
