Thousands of people lined Folkestone Harbour on Saturday for what could be the last train to head down the railway line.
Britannia class locomotive Oliver Cromwell hauled the train from London Waterloo and made several trips up the steepest adhesion-worked railway on the British network to the delight of the watching crowds.
As well as the people who had travelled down from London, locals could purchase tickets for a ride up the line.
There was a marching band, a collection of Morris Minor cars and vans, and a pair of Routemaster buses all adding to the atmosphere.
People lined the route of the railway line all the way up to Warren Road and cheered the train out of the town.
It is thought the line will be mothballed pending discussions on its future.
